About the AI coach
The coach in Week by Week is an AI system built on Claude, made by Anthropic. It's not a person, even though it talks like one. It's designed to be honest, warm and strengths-based, to respect your no-gos and to say clearly when a path is under pressure from AI.
What it can't do
- It can be wrong. Check important facts – pay, entry requirements, course dates – with the employer, provider or Tahatū.
- It doesn't know the future. Income ranges are rough guides, not promises.
- It's not professional advice. For big decisions, talk to your careers advisor, family or people who work in the field.
- It's not a counsellor or a crisis service. Nobody watches conversations in real time, and Week by Week doesn't contact your school or anyone else about you.
If things get hard
Help comes first. If you tell the AI coach you're feeling hopeless or thinking about hurting yourself, or you talk about drugs or alcohol, violence or abuse, it gives you help numbers straight away and encourages you to reach out to someone today. The numbers also appear above its reply, and “Need help now?” is always in the menu. You may also see them if you write something like that in an answer, a check-in, a win, a goal or a habit. The check can miss things. Nobody is told automatically – not your school and not your parents. Please reach out:
